Have a look at our final result first.
.
Step 1
Create a new document in Photoshop with 800px Width and 800px Height.
.
Step 2
Create a new layer by going to Layer> New layer or click on the icon of ‘Create a new layer’, which is present at the bottom of the layers panel. Set # ff0060 as your foreground color and # fff000 as the background color. Now select the ‘Gradient tool’, click on ‘Linear gradient’ icon from top options bar and simply drag the gradient tool vertically from top central part to the bottom of your canvas to get the gradient as below.
.
Step 3
Now go to Filter> Distort> Wave. Use the given settings here to get nicely placed strips. You can play around with the settings to get desirable width strips.
.
Step 4
Now go to Filter> Distort> Polar coordinates. Apply the given settings to get a nice sunburst effect. Simple isn’t it.
.
Step 5
Now I’ll show you how you can achieve different results from this basic sunburst effect. So, first duplicate the sunburst layer to preserve the original result by going to Layer> Duplicate layer. Now click on the duplicated layer to select it and go to Filter> Distort> Zigzag. Use the given values here.
Step 6
Make another copy of the original sunburst layer and go to Filter> Distort> Twirl . Apply the given settings here.
.
.
Step 7
Open the Grunge texture file, Press Ctrl+ A to select it and then press Ctrl+ C to copy the selection. Come back to your document and press Ctrl+ V to paste the texture here. Change the blending mode of texture layer to ‘Linear burn’ and reduce its opacity to 50%. Now duplicate this texture layer and change its blending mode to ‘Soft light’, with 50% opacity.
That’s it. Hope you guys had fun learning this beautiful sunburst effect with me. Do try it and share your thoughts. Have fun!
