Hi guys, I’m here again with another great illustrator tutorial for you. Illustrator CS5 is really useful software, when it comes to making Icons and vectors.
Today, we are going to make a beautiful, realistic looking MP3 player with ear-pieces.
Interesting? Yes I think so and I’m sure you do too. In this tutorial you’ll see the use of gradient and how they define various shapes of our MP3 layer.
So let’s see what we will need to make this vectorized MP3 player:
Requirement: Illustrator CS5
Time: 20-30 min
That’s about it. So start your creativity engines ladies and gentlemen, here we go.
However, before going ahead with the tutorial, let’s have a look at the final product. This way you’ll have an idea about what we’re going to make.
Step1:
Start your Illustrator CS5 and open a new document of 800x800px.
Step2:
Select the pen tool and make a triangular cylinder shape as shown in the image below.
Step3:
Now fill this shape with sapphire gradient, which you can easily find in swatch libraries.
Step4:
Now again with the help of pen tool make a triangular shape at the top of the cylinder as shown below and fill it with a lighter gradient of light blue and white.
Step5:
Now create the boundaries of the top triangular shape and bottom of the cylinder with the help of pen tool and fill those with the Smokey Quartz gradient.
Step6:
Now to add a bit of rounded edge to the triangular cylinder, make a vertical strip with pen tool and fill it with a Blue Topaz gradient.
Step7:
Now add a shadow to the edges of the top and bottom caps of the cylinder by making small square shapes and filling them with dark grey color.
Step8:
Now select the rounder rectangle tool and make a square shape in the middle of the cylinder as shown below. Fill it with Mushroom gradient. Now make another similar shape but keep it a bit smaller and fill it with the same gradient, just change the angle of the gradient a bit to make the difference.
Step9:
Now below the square shapes make a circular shape with the Ellipse tool and fill it with Blue Steel gradient. Make another smaller circle in the middle of the previous and fill it with Silver gradient.
Step10:
Make another smaller circle in the middle of the second circle and fill it with bronze gradient.
Step11:
Then make another circle a bit smaller than the last and fill it with Cast Iron gradient. So, now out main button is complete.
Step12:
Now we are going to make the screen in the middle square shape and for that select pen tool and copy the shape of the blue screen given in the image below. Fill it with Blue Zircon gradient. Copy that shape and paste in place then select the copied shape and flip it vertical.
Step13:
Okay, now we’re going to build a camera lens in our player and for that select pen tool and copy the shape shown below. Fill it with silver gradient.
Step14:
Make another shape draped over our silver one as shown below. Fill it with Blue Steel gradient.
Step15:
Make 2 circular shapes, one a bit smaller than the other and fill them with 2 different gradients of grey to make the click button.
Step16:
Now we are going to make 2 circles again but very small to make the lens of the cam. Fill the bigger with Blue Zircon and smaller with turquoise radial gradient. With that make the reflection of the cam shape on the top cap of the cylinder with pen tool, fill it with light blue and reduce it opacity to 30%.
Step17:
It’s time to make the earphone and to do that select pen tool and make the shape shown below. Fill it with Sapphire gradient to match our MP3 player.
Step18:
Make an oval shape on top of the previous shape and fill it with Tanzanite gradient. Make a semi-circular crescent shape and fill it with white to add the thickness to the oval shape.
Step19:
Now, add wires with the help of pen tool or you can use an Illustrator brush for the shape of wires to connect the ear pieces to the player.
Step20:
Add some descriptions in white and there you have it. A beautiful MP3 player complete with earphones.
Hope you’ll try this and have fun giving it your own personal touch with a few shadows here and there and change of gradients. Do share your thoughts with me on this tutorial and what next you guys want to see. Thanks for coming, do visit again. Take care.
