Hi guys, I am here with another Photoshop tutorial for you. Today, I’ll show you how to make a stylish shopping bag mockup in Photoshop. I’ll show you how to do shadowing on the vector, creating and applying texture subtly, use of warp tool, how to make rope brush in Photoshop and much more. I’m sure, you’ll learn some handy tips on the way. So, lets get started.
Details
Program: Photoshop CS 6 or other versions
Approximate time: 30-40 Minutes
Have a look at our final result first.
Step 1
Create a new document with 850px width and 850px height in Photoshop.

Step 2
Create new layer, set # d90101 as your foreground color. Now select the ‘Pen tool’ with ‘Shape’ tool mode and draw the shape as shown below.
Step 3
Now draw the rest of the shapes to complete the bag using ‘Pen tool’. Colors used are displayed below.

Step 4
Next, we’ll apply shadowing effect on the bag. Press Ctrl+ <Click on the bag front layer> to make selection around it. Now create a new layer and go to Edit> Fill. Use 50% Gray in the contents. Change the Blending mode of this layer ‘Overlay’. Now Select the ‘Burn Tool’ and pick ‘Soft Round Brush’ for it. Use ‘Shadows’ Range and ‘30%’ Exposure. Apply the ‘Burn Tool’ on this layer as shown below.
You can duplicate this shadowing layer to get more intense effect like below.

Step 5
Give shadowing effect to rest of the shapes in the same way as explained in step 4.
Step 6
Now we’ll apply some texture on the bag. To do so, create a new layer above the rest of the layers; select the ‘Rectangular marquee tool’ to draw a rectangle in front of the bag’s front. Fill the selection with # 000000 color using ‘Paint Bucket Tool’. Make sure your foreground color is # 000000 and background color is # ffffff. After that, go to Filter> Render> Fibers. Use the given settings here.
Now go to Filter> Filter Gallery> Colored Pencil. Use the given values for ‘Colored Pencil’.
Step 7
Next, Change the Blending mode of texture layer to ‘Overlay’ and go to Edit> Transform> Warp. Now drag different anchor points according to the bag’s front shape.
For confining texture to the bag’s front only, click on the texture layer, then press Ctrl+ <Click on the bag’s front layer> to make selection around it. After that, click on the icon of ‘Add layer mask’ which is present at the bottom of the layers panel. Reduce the opacity of texture layer to 40%.
Step 8
Apply the texture to rest of the shapes in the same way and keep its opacity to 15% for them.
Step 9
Next, we’ll create nice metallic rings through which bag’s handle will pass. Select the ‘Ellipse Tool’ to form an ellipse and arrange it as shown below.
Now double click on one the ellipse layer and apply the given settings for ‘Gradient Overlay’.
Step 10
Create a larger ellipse on a layer below the ellipse with gradient using # acacac color. Change the Blending mode of this layer to ‘Multiply’ and reduce its opacity to 50%. After that, create a pure white ellipse on a layer above the ellipse with gradient. Lastly, form a smaller ellipse at top of rest of ellipses using # 5a5a5a color.
Collect all these ellipses in a group, duplicate it and arrange it as below.
Step 11
Next, we’ll create a rope like handle strip for the bag. To do so, firstly, we’ll make rope brush in Photoshop. That’s quite easy; just follow the steps with me. First of all, create a new document with 200px width and 150px height. After that, create the shape as shown below using ‘Pen Tool’.
Now double click on this layer and apply the given layer style settings.
Now go to Edit> Define Brush Preset and name this brush as ‘Rope’. Now click on F5 to open the ‘Brush Panel’ and apply the given settings here.
Step 12
Now select the ‘Pen Tool’ with ‘Paths’ tool mode and make the path for the handle as shown below. After that, right click and choose the option of ‘Stroke path’, then ‘Brush’ and hit ‘delete’ to get rid of path. Duplicate the rope layer and change the Blending mode of duplicated layer to ‘Color Dodge’ to get a clear version of rope.
Step 13
Duplicate the rope layer, change its Blending mode to ‘Multiply’ and place this layer below the rest of rope layers. Now go to Edit> Transform> Warp. Give it the shape as below to form a nice shadow of the handle.
Step 14
Create the rope segment for the backside of the bag as displayed below in the same way as explained in step 12.

Step 15
Finally, to create shadow of the bag, select the ‘Rectangular marquee tool’ and draw a rectangle on a new layer below the rest of the layers. Fill it with pure black color using ‘Paint Bucket Tool’.
Then go to Edit> Transform> Distort and arrange the shadow shape as below.
After that, go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur. Use the value of 8px here.
Step 16
Reduce the opacity of shadow layer to 35%.
