Hi friends, today I’ve brought a very interesting tutorial for you guys. In this tutorial you’ll learn how to make realistic looking ipad in Illustrator. With the right use of shapes and gradient we can do wonders with Illustrator. So, without wasting any more time on the introduction let us go ahead with our tutorial.
Note down the things required for this ipad:
Requirements: Illustrator CS5
Time: 30 to 45 min
Have a look of the finished vectorized ipad.
Step1:
Start your Illustrator CS5 and open a new document of 800x800px.
Step2:
Select the pen tool and trace the shape given below. Note the placement of anchor points which will help you to draw the shape accurately.
Step3:
Now fill this shape with the “Silver” gradient which you can get by opening up the swatch libraries. Make the settings shown in the picture given below.
Step4:
Now trace the 2nd shape shown in the picture given below to give our ipad a two dimensional look.
Step5:
Fill the 2nd shape with steel gradient and make the settings shown in the given image.
Step6:
It’s time to make a 3rd shape with pen tool at the top as shown below.
Step7:
Fill the shape with Blue steel gradient and make the settings according to the image shown below.
Step8:
Make a 4th shape which is rectangular for the ipad screen as shown in the given image and fill it with blue steel gradient. Keep the gradient linear.
Step9:
To give a little bit of depth to our screen make another shape shown in the image below. I’ve made the screen shape invisible so you can see clearly the depth shape. Fill this shape with black color#000000 and reduce the opacity to32%.
Step10:
Now make an oval shape using ellipse tool below the screen and fill it with Silver gradient.
Step11:
Make another oval, smaller this time and fill it with White gold gradient. Male another oval and place it on top of the previous, fill it with Tin gradient. For reference see the picture given below.
Step12:
To give a bit of an edge, make the shape shown below in the image. Fill it with Aluminum gradient.
Step13:
To give shine to our top glass screen make the shape as shown below, fill it with white color #ffffff and reduce its opacity to51%.
Step14:
Make another semicircular shape to show the inner side and fill it with black. Reduce its opacity to 10%.
Step15:
Make another shape like the one shown below, fill it with white and reduce its opacity to 14%.
Step16:
Make another small shape as shown below and fill it with white color and reduce the opacity to 85%.
Step17:
Make another semi lunar shape on the dial and fill it with Steel radial gradient and reduce the opacity to 63%.
Step18:
Now we’ll make the small buttons of the ipad. Select the ellipse tool and make a circle at the outer edge on the left side of the big oval shape as shown below and fill it with white gold gradient.
Step19:
Make another small circle and place it on top of the previous as shown in the given image. Fill it with Cast Iron gradient.
Step20:
Make 3 more buttons like that as shown below. Now, it’s time to add a bit of shine on the screen. Make the shape shown below and fill it with white gold and reduce the opacity to 40%.
Step21:
Now we’ll add the shadow. Make the shape shown below. Make a gradient of white to light grey. Set the mode to multiply and reduce the opacity to 80%.
Step22:
Now make an oval shape for dark shadow beneath the iPad. Fill it with black color #000000 and reduce the opacity to 46%. Now use the Gaussian Blur and make the settings 18.0px radius.
Step23:
Now our iPad is complete. You can add a few more shining lines if you like.
