Hi guys, today I’ve brought another tutorial for you but this time we’re going to make a vector preserved fruit can in Illustrator CS5. Sounds interesting? I’m sure it is and it’s even more fun making it in illustrator, working with various shapes and gradients. So without any more wordplay let’s start our tutorial.
So, to make this fruit can from scratch we will only need our very own Illustrator CS5 and your amazing creative genius.
Let’s have a look at the complete fruit can before going ahead with the tutorial, so you can have an idea about the shape and colors.
So now we’ll start.
Start your Illustrator CS5; open up a new document of 800x800px. Select the rounded rectangle tool from the tool preset and make a rectangle as shown in the image given below. Fill it with the Rose Quartz gradient which you can easily find in the swatch libraries under gradients.
Select Ellipse tool and make a horizontal oval shape for the top of the can as shown below. Fill it with the gradient shown in the image. To make this gradient, follow the images given below. I’ve shown each color of the gradient in the images and their composition.
Again select the Ellipse tool and make an oval shape for the bottom of the can and fill it with the same gradient we used for the rounded rectangle shape.
Now, open up the brush preset and select the indicated brush in the image given below to add some decorative borders to our fruit can. Make a curve with the decorative brush, so it can give the impression of roundness.
Repeat the process for the bottom decorative line.
Add the fruit, in this case I’ve pasted the peaches we made before (You can click on this link for the peach tutorial).
Open up the decorative banners preset (you will find it among brush libraries) and select the shown banner and put it above the peaches as shown below.
Now select the type tool and select the Myriad Pro font of size 48pt and make it Bold. Write Fresh Peach with color #BC2006.
Now click on the text and you’ll find Envelop wrap styles on the top menu, select horizontal arc as shown below and make the bend 16% to give the text a slight curve.
Now we are going to make the can opening latch. Make the shape shown below and fill it with color# DEDDDD.
Now make an oval shape as shown below with 5pt stroke and fill it with Mushroom gradient.
Make another shape with the oval with 5pt stroke in color# BCBECO and fill it with white color# ffffff.
Now go to Effect->3D->Rotate. Make the settings as shown below in the given image.
Again add some more text below the peaches using same Envelop warp and horizontal arc and make the bend -10% to give it the needed curve.
I’ve added a few decorative borders to the banner as you can see in the image below.
Now remove the stroke lines from the first rounded rectangle and make a slight change in the gradient to give it a circular look. Add another color slider to the very left. Make the color composition shown below. Use same gradient to change the color of bottom oval.
Now make another oval for the bottom border of the can and fill it with color# 808285. Go to Object ->Arrange->Send to back. Place it the way only a little bit is showing as shown below.
It’s time to add some shadow. Again make an oval and fill it with gradient (black to Not). Place it as shown below.
There you have it. Our fruit can is complete. Have a look at the final image.
Do share your thoughts and suggestions. Let me know what you want me to make in the next tutorial in Illustrator CS5. Until next time, TC.
