Learn How To Make A Camera App Icon In Photoshop

Hey friends, I promised you guys that I’ll be back with another interesting tutorial in which I’ll show you how to make a iPhone camera lens app icon. Well, I’m here with the tutorial. In this tutorial you will learn to make a camera iPhone icon in Photoshop from the scratch and I’ll show you how to use some very simple techniques to achieve a very realistic effect.

Okay so, let’s note down the things you’ll need.

Requirements: Just your basic Photoshop skills :)

Program: Photoshop CS5

Time: 30-40 min

Now before we start our tutorial let’s have a look at the final image.

Step1:

Start your Photoshop and open up a new document of 600×600 px and name it “Camera app icon”.

Step2:

Now fill the background layer with color # 2b1d19.

Step3:

Now go to Filter select Noise and then select Add Noise as shown below in the given image.

Step4:

Keep the amount of the noise 2.45%, select Gaussian and Monochromatic. See the picture given below for the reference.

Step5:

Select a rounded rectangle tool and make rounded square as shown in the picture below with white color# ffffff fill. This is the base of our camera lens.

Step6:

Now to give the brass metallic look to the cam base right click on the layer and go to Blending Options and select Gradient overlay. Set the gradient shown in the given image.

Step7:

You will have something like the given image below.

Step8:

Now select Bevel and Emboss and make the settings shown in the image below.

Step9:

See the picture below to see the effects on the base.

Step10:

It’s time to give Drop shadow. Make the settings for the drop shadow according to the picture given below.

Step11:

Now select Ellipse tool and make a circle shape in the middle of our brass base with black color # 000000.

Step12:

Now we will start the camera lens part. Right click on the circle layer and go to Blending options then go to Gradient Overlay. Set the gradient shown below in the image.This will be the metallic ring around the lens.

Step13:

Now select Bevel and Emboss and make the settings shown in the image below. Keep the Style “Pillow Emboss”

Step14:

Now you will have a shape similar to the image given below.

Step15:

Again select Ellipse tool and make a circle a bit smaller than the previous with color #6f6f6f .

Step16:

Like before right click on the layer and go to blending options and select Stroke. Keep the size 1px with white color# ffffff  . Set the Position Outside.

Step17:

Its time to apply the gradient overlay. Make the gradient shown in the image below and set the style Radial.

Step18:

Now select Inner Shadow and make the settings according to the picture shown below.

Step19:

Now select Drop shadow and again see the picture given below for the settings.

After all these effects now you will have something like the image shown below.

Step20:

In this step we will make another circle again in the middle of previous and a bit smaller than the previous and repeat the steps we did with the previous circle (Step15 to step19).

Step21:

Again make a circle in the middle a bit smaller then the rest of the circles with black color # 000000 for fill.

Step22:

Right click on the layer go to Blending options and select Gradient overlay. Set the “Dark spectrum gradient from the default gradients and set this gradient at the 55 angle.

Step23:

Select Inner shadow and make the settings as shown below for a bit of depth.

Step24:

Again select the Ellipse tool and make another circle smaller than the previous place in the middle with gray color #6f6f6f.

Step25:

Right click on the layer and go to blending options and select Gradient overlay. Use the same silver gradient we used for the first circle and set it on 81 degree angle.

Step26:

Select Stroke of size 1px with white color# ffffff.

Now you will have something like the shape shown in the image below.

Step27:

Now make yet another circle using Ellipse tool with again same gray color smaller than the previous.

Step28:

Give the layer a gradient overlay as  shown in the image below and set the style to radial.

You can see the inner side of lens now.

Step29:

Make another small circle in the middle of the previous with same silver metallic gradient.

Step30:

Again another circle in the middle but this time just 2px smaller than the previous.

Step31:

Right click on the layer and go to blending options then select gradient overlay. Use the gradient shown in the image below with radial style and set at a 56 degrees angle.

Now our lens is almost complete. See the effect in the picture below.

Step32:

Now we’ll add a bi of shine to the inner lens and to do that select soft round brush of 25 px for smaller shine and 35px for the larger one with white color # ffffff.Just click one or twice on the black ball as shown below.

Step33:

Its time to add the covering glass on the lens and to do that make another circle yet and place it over the lens area as shown below.

Step34:

Right click on the layer, go to blending options and select gradient overlay. Select “Spectrum” gradient and set it at an angle of 55 degrees with angle style.

Step35:

Now reduce the layer’s opacity to 47%.

Step36:

Select Pen tool and make a few pieces like shown in the image below with white color # ffffff for reflection.

Step37:

Reduce the opacity of white pieces to 50%. There you have it. Our Camera app icon is complete.
