Hello friends, today I’ve brought a very interesting tutorial for you guys and the most interesting is the fact that it is made completely in Illustrator instead of Photoshop. I’m sure you guys feel most comfortable creating things from layout to Icons. Well, I won’t disagree with you as far as layout is concerned.

However, I can assure you that Icons and vectors are a total different story. It’s much easier to create small objects, Icons and vectors. Techniques are much simpler and layers are easier to handle. What more, the objects you create in an Illustrator CS5 are really easy to re-size and use in Photoshop as well.

Anyway let’s get back to our tutorial. Today we are going to make a beautiful digital watch in Illustrator. Before going ahead with the tutorial let’s have a look at the completed vector watch.

Step1:

Let us start by starting our Illustrator and opening up a new document of 800x800px.

Step2:

Now select the rectangle tool and make a square box with a dark grey fill for the background of our watch.

Step3:

Select the ellipse tool and make an oval shape as shown in the given image. Fill it with the smoky quartz gradient with black 1pt stroke.

Step4:

Go to Effect, go to stylize and then select drop shadow. Make the settings according to the given picture.

Step5:

Make another oval shape a bit smaller than the previous. Fill it with Chrysoprase gradient and sky blue color #3BC6F4 for the 4pt stroke.

Step6:

Now, make another oval small than the previous, fill it with dark grey color #414042, place it on top of the blue one and then go to the Effect, go to stylize and then select inner shadow to the oval.

Step7:

Now, select the Type tool and type “GO” using Agency FB font with light blue color#6FCCDD. Keep the 2pt stroke black #000000. Give the text a drop shadow and make the settings shown in the given image.

Step8:

To give the text a digitized look, select line tool with grey color#414042 and make first vertical straight lines then horizontal as shown in the image. Reduce the opacity to 25%.

Step9:

Now add a few digits to show the time beneath the “GO” and four small lines as shown in the given image.

Step10:

Now our watch is complete. You can finish it here giving it a look of clock. However, I’m going to give this, wristwatch two metal straps. To do that select the pen tool and make a shape as shown in the image. Fill it with Neutral 14 gradient and keep the 2pt stroke black. Also give it a drop shadow too.

Step11:

Now, copy the shape and paste it in place, then right click on the selected shape and go to transform and then select reflect.

Step12:

Now select both shapes and make a group of both. This way you can add as many links making a metal strap first on left side then on the right.
