Hey guys, today we are going to create a realistic looking digital camera in illustrator CS5. For making vectors I often use illustrator because when you are going to construct something from scratch illustrator can be a very helpful and straight forward tool for you.
Some of you Photoshop fans may disagree if you haven’t used the illustrator yet but those who had; they know what I’m talking about.
Of course Photoshop has its uses but making a vector is much easier in illustrator. So don’t be afraid, it’s just a matter of little practice.
That’s why today I’ll show you how to work on illustrator for making a digital camera vector.
Hopefully you’ll have fun making it with me. So let’s get started. However, before going ahead with the tutorial let’s have a look at the finished object.
Open up a new document in illustrator 800×800 px.
Now select Pen Tool and make a rounded rectangular shape as shown above.
Open up the gradient library and select “GEMS AND JEWELS” preset and select “Smoky Quartz” for the fill. Fill the shape with the gradient as shown in the image given above. The type of the gradient will be Linear and set its angle to 90 degree. And stroke color will be #414042.
Copy the shape and paste in place. Make it a bit shorter than the first rectangular shape. As shown above. Fill it with the same gradient. Stroke color will be #414042 and then reduce its Opacity to 30%.
Make another rectangular a bit smaller. Place it in the middle as shown above. Fill it with the same gradient and same stroke and reduce the opacity to 40%.
Make another rectangular shape smaller than the rest as shown above fill it with the same gradient and same stroke but in this shape gradient will be vertical so click on the reverse if you get horizontal lines of color. Opacity will be 100% for this.
Create another rectangular shape a bit smaller with same fill and stroke. Set the gradient angle to 60 degree to make it a bit different than the last.
Now select Ellipse Tool (L) and make a circle at the left side on the rectangular shape as shown above. With the same gradient used before for rectangular shapes. Set the gradient to 90 degree. Make another circle a bit smaller than the last and fill it with the same gradient but set the angle to 60 degree.
Make a rectangular strip with Pen Tool across the circle as shown in the image above. Fill it with the same gradient.
Make a very thin strip fill it with the same gradient and place it with the other strip on the circle as shown above.
Now make a semi rectangular shape, fill it with the smoky quartz gradient set to 90 degree and place it at the right side of the camera. Now make another strip using pen tool and place it at the bottom of the previous.
Repeat the step 8 and 9 and make the circle and strips smaller than the previous and fill them with white color and place them in the middle of previous circles.
Make another small circle and fill it with the Sapphire gradient.
Make a small rectangular shape at the upper right side of the camera as shown above and fill it with the fade to center black gradient. Set the angle to -132 degree.
Copy and paste in place the small rectangle scale it a bit smaller than the previous fill it with white color. Make a shape at the right side of the camera with pen tool, fill it with white color and reduce the opacity to 30%. Make another small square fill it with white and place it on the click button to add shine.
Make a long cylindrical shape with rounded rectangular tool fill it with the Silver gradient and stroke color #414042. Make the stroke 4pt.
Make another rectangular shape in the middle of blue circle and fill it with a neutral 18 gradient and set the type radial to make the lens.
I’ve used Ellipse tool to make a couple of small circles to add the flare of the lens fill them with white color and reduce opacity to 45%. I’ve used a star shaped brush to add flash again with white color. For the text on the lens circles, I’ve used Calibri font, for the main names I’ve used Bauhaus 93 and for 10.1 mega pixel I’ve used Bell MT. Now our digital camera is ready.
Hope you guys will try it yourself. Do share your thoughts with me and let me know what you guys want me to make for you next time.
